I am a recent honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Mathematics.
After taking multivariable/vector calculus last Spring and falling in love with the subject, I went out of my way to teach an engineering student 80% of its syllabus the Summer before she took that course in August. I am happy to say that when the student took the class in the Fall, she found my teaching to have prepared her significantly. It was this experience, in addition to enjoying tutoring my classmates while I was taking multivariable calculus, that sparked my passion for education.
I further honed my teaching techniques when I tutored single variable calculus at my math department's CalcLab last Fall. When students would come to me for help, I learned to carefully tackle each of the gaps in their knowledge and identify the root causes so to prevent future deficiencies.
With advancements in AI and other technologies, the future of education lies in engaging students to think originally and with rigor. As such, I focus on developing my students' self-reliance in mathematics. I not only view mathematics as a way of thinking, almost like a philosophy, but also a tool. I then render my role as an educator to use such a tool to guide my students on how to think outside the box, form questions, and answer them.
