Wayne: Wheeling tutor
Certified Tutor
As the parent of an 11th grader, I am in the same boat as many parents here, wanting the best learning experience possible for my child. That is what I hope to provide as a tutor. I earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee and have practiced law for 26 years. My passion for historic preservation led me to become an architectural historian for the last several years, having earned a Master of Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University later in life. Those degrees complement my Bachelor in Accounting and English Minor from Shorter College. I tutored fellow students in accounting during college and have first hand experience identifying new ways to help my son learn as he has grown. As a boy scout leader, I have spent years teaching youth as a merit badge counselor and occasional camping trip coordinator. I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students can connect deeply with the material.
My teaching philosophy generally follows the EDGE method used in scouting Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Enable allowing me to tailor my approach to each student's unique needs. Outside the classroom, I enjoy watching college sports, scouting, experiencing music, and exploring history through outdoor activities, all of which enrich my teaching and hopefully inspire students to engage with their surroundings. I relish the opportunity to share my knowledge and real-world experiences by primarily tutoring in three areas: history/politics, English, and law.
