I am looking forward to working with you/your student on this platform!! I have a wide variety of experiences, interests, and expertise working with students of all learning levels. I'm a graduate of Southern Nazarene University where I earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology. During high school and college I worked as a Veterinarian's Assistant and since graduation, maintained anesthesia equipment and assisted anesthesiologists during traumas and routine surgeries for 9 years as an Anesthesia Technician in the operating room (Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, & Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado).
After my children were older, in order to follow their school schedules, I took advantage of an opportunity to gain my teaching credentials in the State of Texas through an alternative certification program, which resulted in me becoming certified to teach Special Education (K12), General Education (1-8). I had amazingly supportive co-workers and principals who helped coach me and provide training for meeting the needs of struggling learners, especially in math. During this time, I was also trained to provide In-Home and Parent Training for families and students with disabilities at home and in the community.
After finding I really love connecting with students, I attended East Texas A&M University to earn a Masters of Science in School Counseling (currently certified for K-12, Texas) to better support my students behaviorally and emotionally. During this time our campus principal envisioned connecting with/helping our students' parents learn English, so I helped the school and community organize a program to support parents to gain English proficiency as well as GED/HSE content support. Through this connection I was introduced to opportunities to teach adults initially on our campus, through the Texas Workforce Grant Adult HSE/GED classes with Navarro College, and eventually with Paris Junior College for a total of 7 years of evening classes. Both programs are located in Texas.
Additionally, I have expertise in music theory, transposing, and teaching others to read music. Piano and french horn are the instruments I know best.
Finally, I obtained my Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) License in 2015 and have been driving a school bus part-time since then. I am currently certified to operate a CMV with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements.
