I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a first-generation, low-income (FGLI) college junior from NYC. I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, with intended minors in Law and Society and Policy Analysis. My academic and professional interests revolve heavily around dismantling barriers to true equity. One area I am particularly passionate about is educational justice -- because education should be a right, not a privilege. I first began tutoring as a Teacher Assistant at a local after-school program during my freshman year of high school. Since then, I have continued to develop strong reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, which will support students who are in K-8 and struggle with the English language in any way (e.g., reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, etc.). Furthermore, my experience navigating the college application process has equipped me with valuable insight into what admissions officers look for in college essays. I can help brainstorm ideas, share effective writing strategies, and edit personal statements and supplemental essays.

As a Public Policy Fellow at the Institute for Youth in Policy, I researched how positive behavioral interventions create safe and equitable educational environments. I recognize firsthand that patience and empathy are crucial to building strength, growth, and intellectual curiosity. I hope to help all interested students reach their fullest potential by ensuring that they receive accessible, high-quality education. Every student deserves clear, strategic support tailored to their unique learning journeys.
