Gina: Wood Dale tutor
Certified Tutor
As a recent graduate from Dominican University with dual Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Social Justice, with a focus on Pre-law, I am excited to begin this chapter as a tutor on this platform. Although it is the beginning of my journey on Varsity Tutors, I bring over 6 years of tutoring experience across various subjects. These subjects include math up to the Statistics level, Elementary English/ Math/ Spelling, Criminal Justice, and Psychology. I have recently begun tutoring high-level reading, writing, and research, as my degrees required the development of these skills. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring concepts through conversation, interactive activities, and practice scenarios. I believe that learning should be both challenging and enjoyable, which is why I incorporate games and challenges to motivate younger students. My goal is to connect with each student individually, adapting my methods to fit their unique needs. I am particularly passionate about helping students develop critical thinking skills and confidence in their abilities, and I find great joy in their academic progress. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my two cats, reading, writing, and exploring new ways to stay active.

My hobbies include spending time with a wide variety of animals! I have two cats of my own, but spend portions of my week caring for dogs and bunnies. I also enjoy hiking, playing tennis, and watching reality TV. Law and criminal justice have always been my primary academic interests, inspiring me to undertake five separate internships over my four years in undergrad, all spanning at least six months in length. Psychology is another primary interest of mine in academics, and I love reading research on different social psychology theories. A fun fact is that my Psychology thesis project on implicit bias in juror decision-making won the departmental award for the most outstanding senior thesis.
