After earning a Bachelors in International Relations from American University, with a minor in Spanish, I moved to Spain to teach English in a secondary school. In addition to working in the classroom, I also had many one-on-one and group sessions with students raging from elementary school age to adults. It was in Spain where I discovered my passion for teaching. When I returned to the United States, I pursued that interest by obtaining my Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Smith College.
Since then, I have taught in a few different secondary schools in the United States and continue to teach Spanish to 9-12 graders. I really enjoy sharing my love for language and exploring how my experiences living, working and traveling abroad have shaped my appreciation for the various associated cultures. In addition to my time in Spain, I also lived in Costa Rica for six months during college and I have traveled throughout Central America, as well as parts of southern Mexico. Drawing on both personal experiences and academic knowledge allows me to bring greater meaning to what I am teaching.
I am interested in tutoring both Spanish and English as a second language as I have experience teaching and tutoring in both of these subjects. When I first meet a student, I like to get a clear sense of where they are with the language as well as their individual goals. From there, we can shape our sessions to focus on areas to meet your current goals.
