Ian Gabriel Shai: Alaska tutor
Certified Tutor
I hold a degree in Political Science and Public Administration with a concentration in local development and electoral systems. Over the past several years, I've dedicated myself to helping students develop a clear understanding of history, English, Spanish, civics, and the social sciences through personalized one-on-one instruction. I have privately tutored high school students in history, helping them dramatically improve both their grades and their critical thinking skills.
My passion for tutoring comes from a deep belief that education is not only a tool for personal growth but also for empowerment. I love helping students make connections between the past and the present, encouraging them to think analytically and engage with the world around them. I find that history, when taught with context and heart, transforms from a list of dates into a living conversation and that is the moment where real learning begins.
While I am capable of tutoring a range of subjects in the humanities and social sciences, my favorite to teach is Mexican and world history. I enjoy working with students to bring clarity to complex political or historical events, especially when they feel overwhelmed or discouraged. My approach is patient, flexible, and focused on helping each student build confidence in their abilities. I see every tutoring session as a partnership, one where we build knowledge together in a way that fits the student's goals and learning style.
Outside of tutoring, I'm a passionate reader, an aspiring writer, and I have a deep interest in national identity, public policy, and the intersection between culture and politics. Helping students understand the world they live in and their place in it is not only a privilege, it's my vocation.
