I'm a recent graduate from the University of Michigan and obtained my B.A. with Honors' in Anthropological Archaeology (a mouthful, I know). What this basically means is that I study human societies of the past. In the fall, I'll be starting work on my Ph.D. at the University of California - San Diego. As someone who has taken a non-traditional route through academia and as a first-generation student, I believe that knowledge has a specific kind of power and that gaining it should be accessible to everyone. As such, my tutoring style is tailored to each students specific needs and focused on empowering students to take ownership of their studies. I have worked both as an assistant teacher and have done private tutoring at the undergraduate level. While I can tutor a broad range of subjects, those I am most passionate about are English, History, Social Studies, and Political Science. Despite being not the most highly valued, I believe that subjects in the humanities are critical for developing critical thinking, reasoning, and for creating a well-rounded learner. I try to impart this on students by creating pathways for engaging more critically with material.

My research interests center around the emergence of social complexity, such as when people transitioned from hunting and gathering to utilizing agriculture. I examine these transitions through human bones and burials! My region of interest is the Peruvian Andes, where I've spent time doing lab work. My favorite part of archaeology, though is the excavation! Last summer, I spent six weeks in South Africa digging a Middle Stone Age site. When I'm not digging in the dirt, I like to read the latest archaeological papers and an occasional sci-fi novel, play with my dog, hike, and rock climb!
