Certified Tutor

I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Chicago. I am intending to pursue a major in English Language and Literature, with a possible double major in Economics or math. I recently graduated from Lane Tech High School, where I worked as a member in our Writing Center for two years. As a Writing Center tutor, I worked with students on all sorts of assignments such as college essays, rhetorical analysis papers, opinion pieces, etc. However, we also worked through developing technical skills such as writing a strong thesis statement, selecting strong evidence and analyzing it effectively. Our goal in the writing center, that I plan to bring into my tutoring at Varsity, is to produce better writers, not better writing. Developing an essay you're proud of is important, but the most important part of anything is the process. I want writers to walk away from a session feeling like a stronger writer, who also has a piece of writing they are proud of. All that being said, I am very passionate about tutoring in reading and writing. As a lifelong reader and writer, these are where my passions lie. Additionally, I am a strong math student, and look forward to problem solving together. In math, understanding the process to achieve an answer is what we will be emphasizing in sessions together. Taking it step by step, and understanding how to use patterns has been an effective tool in my own math career. I am experienced in all levels up to and including calculus, having taken AP Calculus BC as well as calculus 2 at my university.
