I am passionate about helping students because I believe that education unlocks not only academic success, but confidence and lifelong curiosity. Over the course of my career, I have seen firsthand how understanding a subject deeply can transform a student's motivation and open new opportunities for their future.
I have extensive experience working with students and colleagues in both academic and professional environments. As a research engineer at Seagate Technology for over 20 years, and later as a data scientist at Optum, I regularly mentored junior engineers, interns, and team members in technical subjects ranging from mathematics and physics to data science and machine learning. These experiences taught me how to break down complex ideas into accessible, engaging lessons tailored to the learner's background.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Physics, as well as a Ph.D. in Materials Science. I also hold a certificate in Big Data, further expanding my expertise in computational and analytical fields.
I tutor a wide range of subjects, including all areas of mathematics, general physics, computer science, Python programming, databases, data science, and machine learning topics. My favorite subjects to tutor are mathematics, physics, and computer science because they provide the foundation for so much innovation and discovery. I particularly enjoy competition math and programming challenges, where creativity and problem-solving come together.
My teaching philosophy centers around customizing the learning experience to meet the individual needs of each student. I believe in using visuals, relatable examples, and interactive problem-solving to make concepts clear and memorable. My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, and adaptable focusing on building understanding and confidence step-by-step.
Outside of academia, I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking and exploring with my wife and our dog, Bailey. I believe that maintaining a balance between intellectual pursuits and personal interests is important, and I encourage my students to find joy and balance in their own learning journeys as well.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy hiking and exploring nature with my wife and our dog, Bailey. I'm an avid golfer and chess enthusiast, and I also have a strong interest in investing and financial markets. I love cheering for my daughter as she competes in cheerleading at Wake Forest University and supporting my son at his high school wrestling matches. These activities keep me energized and help me bring balance and perspective to everything I do.
