Certified Tutor
I hold an Honours Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science with a Concentration in Neuroscience and a Minor in Psychology from Carleton University. I am currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Communicative Disorders (CDA) at Durham College. My academic path has deepened my understanding of how we communicate, think, and learn, and has sparked a passion for helping others build their confidence in learning.
I tutor a wide range of subjects including general science, math, neuroscience, English, biology, anatomy and physiology, dance, as well as academic reading and writing. I am genuinely passionate about each of these subjects and take great care in adapting my teaching methods to suit individual learning styles.
My experience as an Emergency Supply Teacher has prepared me to support students of all abilities across various subjects. This role has taught me to adapt quickly to different classroom environments, manage diverse learning needs, and create a positive and inclusive learning space. In addition, I currently volunteer with the Aphasia Institute and March of Dimes Canada, where I support adults with aphasia and communication disorders in both individual and group settings. These experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate with patience, empathy, and clarity.
Most recently, I am currently completing a student practicum for my Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) program at Centennial Infant and Child Centre, a early intervention preschool program that supports children with a wide range of complex developmental and communication needs. At Centennial, I work one-on-one with children in a play-based therapy setting to support early language development. Deliver individualized communication support using a total communication approach, including verbal language, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), visual supports, and American Sign Language (ASL). Plan and facilitate speech therapy sessions and activities targeting early communication goals. Moreover, collaborate in an interdisciplinary team to promote meaningful communication outcomes. This experience has deepened my skills in play-based learning, individualized support, and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies. Working in this environment has further strengthened my ability to connect with learners in meaningful ways and adapt my teaching style to suit diverse needs.
In regards to my dance experience, I am a former competitive dancer and gymnast, I attended an arts high school where I majored in dance with a minor in media arts, and had the amazing opportunity of performing with Cirque du Soleil at the opening ceremonies of the 2015 Pan Am Games.
My approach to tutoring is structured, encouraging, and student-centered. I enjoy breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps and helping students build long-term learning strategies they can carry with them. Whether you're looking to improve your grades, prepare for an exam, or develop your confidence in a particular subject, I'm here to support your success every step of the way.
