I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a PhD Candidate studying Contemporary Multiethnic Global Literature at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where my research explores themes of hybridity, race, gender, and resistance movements. As an adjunct English instructor at two Florida community colleges, I work with diverse learners to strengthen their critical reading, writing, and analytical skills. Before this, I taught ESL and ELL students at a Newcomer Center in Texas, where I helped immigrant students build confidence in language acquisition and academic communication. These experiences have collectively shaped my teaching philosophy, which is that education should be empowering, adaptable, and accessible. I believe in meeting students where they are; thus, I tailor my approach to their unique learning styles and foster a supportive environment where they can thrive.
While I tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Writing. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a student uncover their voice in an essay or discover the power of a great novel. I also enjoy guiding learners through college-level composition, literary analysis, and research skills that are essential for academic and professional success.

Outside of teaching, I'm an avid traveler eager to learn about different cultures and perspectives. I also enjoy hiking, creative writing, and social justice advocacy. Education, to me, is more than just mastering a subject; it's about nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and the confidence to navigate the world. I'm excited to bring that perspective to every tutoring session.

Hobbies

When I’m not teaching or buried in a book, you’ll usually find me doing one of three things: Burning a loaf of sourdough (I swear, I’m getting better at it). There’s something about the slow rise—the mess, the waiting, the occasional triumph—that makes it all worth it in the end! Hiking trails or getting lost in the mountains where I can meet strangers and gain a new perspective on life. Failing spectacularly at keeping plants alive (my herbs are a tragedy, but I persist). Same goes for rescuing overly dramatic pets—currently, a crooked-tailed cat runs my household.
