Dear Future Students,
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and consider me as your Spanish tutor.
I have over fifteen years of experience in teaching, curriculum design, and the development of educational programs in both Spanish and English. Currently, I serve as a Spanish Language and Culture Instructor at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) in Arlington, VA, and as an Adjunct Professor teaching Elementary Spanish 101, 102, and 201 at Hood College in Frederick, MD.
I hold a master's degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, as well as another master's degree in Marketing. Additionally, I am certified by the Maryland State Department of Education with an endorsement in Spanish (PreK-12) and hold Blackboard Certifications. I also possess ACTFL certifications in oral, listening, writing, and reading proficiencies in Spanish, a post-graduate certification in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, an AP Spanish Language and Culture Certification, and ACSI Certification.
In Fall 2020, I was honored with the Exemplary Fall Course Award for a Spanish Linguistics Online Course that I developed on Blackboard at Oklahoma Christian University. I have also served as a speaker at various conferences for teachers of Spanish as a Second Language.
My teaching philosophy centers on identifying each student's unique talents and guiding them in the development of their language skills. I seek qualities such as creativity, passion, and curiosity, and I aim to foster an environment where students can successfully enhance their ability to speak and understand a second language. I pay special attention to each student's abilities, tailoring class content to deliver engaging lectures, interactive activities, and enjoyable homework assignments. This approach ensures that students remain engaged, motivated, and actively involved in their language-learning journey. I strive to create an inclusive classroom environment that promotes collaboration, respect, and camaraderie among all students.
I hope to work with you soon!
Be creative. Be a blessing.

I have been happily married for 21 years. My husband, Alvaro, and I have two children: Izzie (15 years old) and AJ (13 years old). We also have a dog named Maxie, and two parakeets named Bluey and Bingo. I enjoy spending my free time with them, crocheting and knitting, preparing my lessons, and vacationing with my family—my brother, sister, nephews, and nieces—in Barranquilla, Colombia.
