I graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics for Secondary Education. During my time in college, I had the privilege of tutoring students in math across a wide range of levels, from middle school to college courses. This experience sparked my passion for teaching and confirmed my desire to help students succeed in mathematics.
I have three years of teaching experience in secondary math classes, working with students in grades 7 through 12. While I have taught a variety of grade levels, I have most experience with 8th-grade math and Algebra I. As a tutor, I appreciate the opportunity to work with students of diverse ages and abilities, as it allows me to adapt my teaching to meet each student's unique needs and learning styles.
I am passionate about helping students because I believe education is the key to freedom and personal growth. Witnessing a student's progress, whether it's mastering a challenging concept or gaining confidence in their abilities, is incredibly rewarding. I am driven by the knowledge that I can make a positive impact on students' lives by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.
My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a growth mindset in my students. I encourage them to view challenges as opportunities to learn and to embrace mistakes as valuable steps in the learning process. I understand that math can be intimidating for many students, but I strive to make it accessible and engaging by breaking down complex concepts into manageable parts and relating them to real-life applications. My tutoring style is patient, supportive, and tailored to each student's pace and goals.
My favorite subjects to tutor are Algebra I and 7th/8th-grade math because they lay the groundwork for higher-level math and critical thinking skills. These subjects are pivotal in helping students build confidence and develop problem-solving abilities that extend beyond the classroom. It's incredibly fulfilling to help students grasp these concepts and see their newfound confidence translate into success.
In addition to my educational background and teaching experience, I am committed to being a lifelong learner. This mindset not only fuels my personal growth but also inspires my students to approach learning with curiosity and determination. My ultimate goal is to empower students to overcome challenges, develop resilience, and unlock their full potential through education.
