I graduated from the Faculty of Arts, the Department of English Literature. Throughout my years of study, learning the Arabic language went in parallel with all the other subjects, even when I was specializing in English literature. We had to study poems of the highest level. We had also to study the comparative literature between Arabic and English.
Teaching in Syria focused on Arabic as it is our native language, and it was a turning point in every academic year. It couldn't be neglected or passed on like any other subject.
I may say that excelling in passing the Arabic exam was a must to pass. I received my Bachelor of Arts in 1981, and since then I have been working as an English teacher as a second language to IB level and other grades, as well as an Arabic teacher for non-Arab students.
Since graduation, I have traveled to the United Arab Emirates, where I was trained extensively by the Ministry of Education and cooperated with Australian, Canadian, and British teaching associations.
We, the English teachers had to attend international seminars and conferences about tutoring. We were updated with the latest methods of teaching.
The second phase of my teaching experience was in teaching the two languages to Arabs and non-Arab students. They were adults in embassies, universities, companies, and many other corporations.
Not only my rich experience in teaching English and my strength in Arabic helped me excel in teaching both languages, but also the courses I attended by the Foreign Service Institute/Washington DC, had a good influence on my professional life.
Spending approximately more than 30 years in teaching, made it my game. It is my passion and my best time. If I must pin the globe model, I dare say that I taught students from all over the world.
I am humbled to say that I had many letters of appreciation from most of my students who moved from level to level under my tutoring. l won two contracts with the US Embassy in the United Arab Emirates for 10 years. That was after being submitted to a very professional bid.
I am also working with Eton Institute, and I have private clients, all these classes have been taking place on Zoom, Team, Webex, Blackboard, and other means of communication since the pandemic started.
Tutoring was not the only field that I specialized in. I also had a long experience in lecturing about Culture in the Arab World in general and the UAE in particular.
My lectures were mostly to raise awareness about the dos and don'ts. I am most passionate about English, Literature, and History. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, and understanding embedded language is a mixture of fun and learning.
During our classes, time flies. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading which enriches my life, as well as jogging, and Sudoku.
