Christine: Illinois tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a linguistic researcher and instructor with a passion for languages! I recently earned my Ph.D. in Linguistics at UCLA with a focus on phonetics (speech sounds). Prior to my doctoral degree, I received a Master of Arts in Linguistics at UCLA and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Spanish at The Ohio State University. As a former university instructor and teaching assistant, I have extensive experience teaching grammar and pronunciation across the world's languages, in addition to academic and college-level writing. Before graduate school, I volunteered as an ESL tutor for both adults and children. Therefore, my favorite subjects to tutor are ESL, phonetics and accent coaching, and academic writing. My teaching philosophy is student-centered, and I work closely with each student to create a learning plan based on the individual's goals and learning style. One of my favorite aspects of teaching is watching students master a new concept or skill and gain more confidence in their abilities. While I enjoy studying languages as a research scientist, few things are more rewarding to me than teaching!
