I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

My experience goes back 6 years. Since 2017, I have been tutoring key stage 2 (years 5 and 6) and key stage 3 Mathematics and English, and GCSE English, Biology and Chemistry. My degree in Human Biosciences and Health Studies allowed me to develop valuable skills in written and oral communication, as well as being proactive and taking initiative in how I research and execute tasks in my professional and personal life. Such skills and experience, I believe, have been crucial to how I go about supporting my students in their education, as it requires patience, attention to detail and the ability to accommodate the needs of others.

What to expect:
I want my students to learn in a way that works best for them, that they will be comfortable with. Therefore, my approach to teaching incorporates patience and respect towards the students and working as a team to figure out the best way to tackle their difficulties. Above all, I want to help learners to recognise their potential.

- Personalised sessions:
No two students are the same. Tuition classes for each student are catered to their individual capabilities, skills, and areas that they need to work on. This is achieved through careful and regular communication throughout the class, in order to understand how to help the student best.

- Student feedback:
As mentioned above, I take care to understand exactly what the student needs help with. Therefore I encourage open communication with the student at the end of each class to review how they found the tasks. I will also review the workload with the student every half-term or as we complete the topic and discuss the best ways to move forward, to ensure that the student is fully engaged in their education much as possible.

- Parent/Guardian Feedback:
Parents/guardians will receive regular updates on how their child is getting on and are also encouraged to provide input in their child's learning e.g. if they know of a particular topic that their child needs extra help with, they are more than welcome to let me know about it. (However, should this be the case, I only ask that the parent/guardian bring it to my attention no less than 24hrs before the session.)
