I am an enthusiastic student success coach and teacher/tutor of university and career writing! My credentials include a BA in English from Lock Haven University of PA, an MA in English from Indiana University of PA, and an online Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. When I am not working, I love to spend time with family, friends, and felines. To sustain my zen energy, I hike in the mountains, cycle, swim, read, watch movies, or venture to new places. So far, I have visited 32 of the United States! Proudly, I am one of five first-generation college siblings. From lived experience, I firmly believe that through education, we can achieve a lifetime of economic empowerment, as well as personal and professional success.
During my long career, I have coached many students in learning and applying time management, organization, self-care, and study skills. Since I began tutoring writing as an undergraduate, I have helped many writers of diverse backgrounds and skills to improve their communication for expressive, informative, and persuasive purposeswhether they are adapting to college-level writing or preparing for graduate/professional school or the workforce. Whether you are a planner or explorer, our conversations will help you to experience being a "flexible writer" through the looping-back phases of the writing process (brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, proofreading). Breaking writing into steps will make it more manageable as you build your message to inform, entertain, or persuade an audience. You will also learn strategies for reviewing writing, which will help you to improve ideas, development, organization, style, documentation, and mechanics.
My teaching style is a collaborative learning approach with the social nature of writing, reading, and interacting at its center. Why? Life is a continuous education process. To succeed, we must acquire new knowledge and skills, connect with resources, and interact with our environment. As an "active learner," what we bring to a discussion is just as important as what any teacher, tutor, coach, advisor, or mentor contributes. If we take ownership of our learning, we will accomplish more than earning a grade or obtaining a job; we will be prepared for life, to be citizens of the world.
