My career has spanned many facets of working environments. I was first employed by the Health services (Glasgow Western Infirmary) and then moved to Education (Educational Television) and after that worked for a Local Authority in Community Services working closely with Outdoor Education and the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA).
I gained my BA degree and BA(hons.) degree from the Open University ensuring that the subject groupings I studied would allow me to join the British Psychological Society (BPS) of which I am currently a member, specifically with the Occupational Psychology division and the Sport and Science division.
My main remit was in teaching Primary school children (8yrs.) through Secondary pupils to adults theoretical and practical aspects of watersports. I hold numerous vocational certificates as required for teaching watersports within the various sporting organisations.
I used my psychology training to better understand the intricacies of the learning processes and how to apply this to my everyday teaching skills. This enabled me to give students a stimulating and rewarding experience in their learning process.
Considering my Psychological training my main focus was on the complex aspects of short term and
long term memory with a specific focus on the particular effect latent imagery had on mental and physical performance of students.
Having been much involved in adhering to curriculum objectives and assessments particularly in working with the SQA and Sporting Governing Bodies I am confident that I would be diligent in tutoring pupils to the standards expected and keep the focused on the course they are studying in an innovative and enjoyable way.
In my leisure time I greatly enjoy interaction with my family and five grandchildren and their continuing educational development. My main hobbies are sailing, photography and chess. Considering entertainment, I enjoy factual documentaries and fictional drama television programmes. Science fiction series and films feature highly within my entertainment satisfaction. My taste in music is fairly varied however I really enjoy and appreciate harmonious performances by instrument and or voice. I play many video games either solo or co-op especially in VR format. I am currently extremely interested in the development of VR programmes which address ways to alleviate any stress conditions and phobias.
