Certified Tutor

I graduated from Nicholls State University with Bachelor of Arts in English education. I also have a minor in speech education. I am a retired English teacher with 33 years of experience in the classroom. I taught junior high language arts (seventh and eighth grades) for one semester, and I spent the next thirty-two and a half years teaching at the high school level. At the high school, I taught various levels of English, advanced composition classes, teaching classes for seniors interested in majoring in education, and speech classes. Since retiring, I have worked at a learning center as a tutor and online homeschool teacher, as an online ESL teacher for VIP Kid and for Cambly and Cambly Kids, and as a tutor for Tutor Gigs. I have also tutored in person at my home. Although my teaching years were spent teaching high school students, I have obtained experience working with students of all ages, as well as adults, through online teaching and tutoring in person and online. I love teaching/tutoring all aspects of English and also enjoy working various age groups. As a teacher and tutor, I have always been aware that not all students like English and that some may not find it easy. With these two things in mind, I like to have structure when I teach/tutor, but I also like to have fun and to make my students feel relaxed so that they will be open to learning and comfortable asking and answering questions. I also understand that I may have to use various strategies and techniques to reach some students and will do what I have to do to ensure my students' success. In my spare time, I love spending time with my husband, our two sons, their wives, and our grandchildren. I also enjoy decorating, doing crafts, and working out.
