I am 44 years old and I am actually living out the career path I envisioned for myself from the time I was 6 years old. I possess a strong passion for teaching students, and watching them grow into their own person through my caring, consistent abilities to teach and connect with my students.
I began teaching in Atlanta Ga, at the tender age of 24. I started out as a Pre-K teacher at a private school titled Faith Academy, moving on to teach 3rd students in yet another prestigious elementary school called Bouie Theme School. I began as parent coordinator connecting the parents to the school and curriculum at a public school in Ga, called Columbia elementary. I then moved on to working for Children Services in Gwinnett County, servicing students with social emotional issues, and home displacement. In 2009 I relocated back to New York where I am from to continue teaching in the NYC Public school system, where I am currently teaching students with disabilities. I completed both of my Master Degrees at the University of Phoenix, then obtaining my Advanced certification in Students With Disabilities. I have specialized in working with students that have IEP's, and many types of learning disabilities.
The subjects I will be tutoring in is ELA grades 1-6, as well as Science grades 1-6, with some math in grades K-5
I have a strong passion for teaching students how to read, write, spell, and sound out unknown words. I love to see the progression in students when they begin at a low reading level, then eventually soar to much higher reading levels.
My philosophy is special in a sense that I believe all children have their own way of learning, but also has the ability to conform to any teaching style that promotes fun engaging activities which allows students to create fond memories of each lesson to carry them through life. I like to make connections with my students, to assure them that I am present for them and their growth. I enjoy teaching through real-world situations. I believe it is important for all students to know and understand that their purpose is to learn and be prepared for the real world. That is what the learning process is all about.
I like spending time with my family, learning in ways that allows me to grow and develop as a person. I like helping others, seeing the joys of others accomplishing something new, and or mastering a new skill or hobby. Life is all about learning, growing, enjoying life, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
