I received my law degree from the Duquesne University School of Law in 1997 and became licensed to practice that same year. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Pittsburgh. After a judicial clerkship, the main focus of my career was as a prosecutor in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where I tried hundreds of cases, presented cases before Pennsylvania Appellate Courts, and advised law enforcement agencies in various stages of pending investigations. Currently, I work for a non-profit that conducts nationwide trainings and prepares resources for prosecutors, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders. While I was a prosecutor, I also instructed at the Reading Police Academy and served for several years as an adjunct professor at Reading Area Community College and Alvernia University, where I taught criminal justice courses to undergraduates. My approach in teaching is trying to help students understand fundamental concepts with concrete examples that can later be used as a foundation to approach new problems. I look at the law as an interlocking web that relies on context to other parts of the law to understand. A real challenge to beginning any kind of study of the law is building a foundational understanding. My goal when working with students is trying to identify other parts of the law that can help give context to the area of the law being studied.
