I've been tutoring the bar since last October. During the bar season I treat it as a full time job and work regularly in the season with students on MBE strategy, MEE strategy, and the substantive topics that come along with it.
I also tutor students in law school. A lot of my experience with the bar exam subjects really supplement my ability to effectively tutor students in wide range of substantive areas.
I believe that success on the bar comes 50% from good substantive background but also 50% in the strategies you employ. The bar is hard, and of course is not an exam we will score close to perfect. With the MBE I'm knowledgeable on the substantive issues but I try to use that to help you effectively strategize. Often times the right answer can be unclear but using your substantive knowledge can help you effectively eliminate bad answers to really increase your odds and enhance your scores.
With the MEE general knowledge of substantive issues is obviously important, but it's crucial to analyze in your writing the way the test grader wants it. And it's SO important to understand it's all about what they want. So, I focus on structuring your essays in a way that you're hitting all the points and minimizing the risk that you miss subtle issues. I also try to help you understand and handle what they mean by the most annoying thing everyone says about the MEE which is "if you don't know the rule just make one up." I think there's a way to handle that, and often a general background in a substantive area can help you get a solid answer. I got a 303 on the bar, with the strongest part of my exam being the essay portion. And that was despite writing one essay I completely made up, and another where my conclusion was wrong, but I nonetheless analyzed all arguments/counter arguments to get a lot of points. They care less about your conclusions, but the way you analyze and address arguments, and utilize your facts.
This is all and oversimplification of what I'll help you with. I look forward to meeting with you if you move forward with me as your tutor!
