Words are among the most powerful concepts ever devised in human history. Words start wars and end wars. Words begin loving relationships and end them. Words are lyrical and profound, stunning and obscene. And within the letters and punctuation points that compose our messages, astonishing power resides. The right word at the right time can inspire, lift up, and motivate. The wrong word can devastate.
For more than four decades, I have crafted my passion for writing into a very rewarding career. I love sharing my experience and expertise with others. No matter your grade level or academic achievement, I know I can make you a better writer. Some of my students have gone on to writing careers, but most have achieved their successes because of their abilities to communicate effectively by embracing the concepts of good writing.
I contend that the overwhelming cause of most problems in the world--from families to businesses to politics--can be attributed to poor communications. Great rewards lie in store for those who use words well well. I am always thrilled when I see the spark of understanding in the eyes of my students, the pride, the delight, and even the surprise. That's why I teach.
