My professional experiences have involved dealing with and meeting the immediate needs of everyday New Yorkers. In addition, being an educator throughout my professional career and the last two years in Higher Education has given me the privilege of giving back to the community. My role in guiding students' educational journey is a great responsibility that I relish and match by my dedication to assisting students in achieving their personal and school goals. My roles have consisted of a careful and thorough approach in the administrative duties such as clear communication, planning, and organizing meetings and events, and not limited to assisting when able.
Boricua College is an institution that prides itself in the holistic and individual support between Professor and student. Through this core principle, I have gained the experience of being adaptable in the skill of comprehension. Of course, not every student learns the same way; however, they can share the same foundation of knowledge. Furthermore, different approaches to lecture and instruction allow the students to be adaptable to changes and for the students to accept feedback.
As a Professor in the Generic Studies program, completing each of my students' registration process provided the opportunity to be personally attentive to each student's education and skill level. As a result, I created the best plan and schedule to succeed. In addition, this role included researching and gathering additional individualized educational materials, providing different weekend classes for computer skill-building, and supervised Student Council.
Working at Samaritan Village in my position as Case Manager gave me the human resources skills of understanding the needs of individuals and how that translates to the organization as a whole. At CAMBA, my position as Teacher Assistant provided me with a deeper understanding of how important budgeting is and how it must be able to provide for all aspects of the organization's mission statement, which was providing low-income students with valuable tools in an afterschool setting. Within the budget, I offered additional skills in creating a Crochet Club while learning to write and implement curriculums.
Additionally, working for a boutique French/American neighborhood bakery, I understood the importance of small businesses in New York and how vital customers are. As a hiring manager in Betty Bakery, I learned which skills are needed to work in any industry. This position exemplified the value of leading by example as I grew from an initial counter-position to the hiring manager and then general manager. As general manager, I achieved some of my most proud accomplishments; I drafted training manuals for all staff positions, I implemented strategies that cut costs. I yielded products that increased sales resulting in higher revenue and profits.
My abilities are rooted in enthusiasm and motivation for providing solutions. My skillset includes working through high-pressure situations and always striving to be the best I can be for my support. The relationships that I build as an educator with the future generation and the institution of higher learning are personally rewarding and lead to a greater chance for success.
