I graduated with a B.A. in English Education from Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia, in 1992. While teaching English at an urban high school in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area, I began working on my Masters Degree in Education. I completed my M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision in August of 1998. I have homeschooled my four children for the past 17 years. This has been a most rewarding way to both teach and learn! As a homeschool teacher, I have created courses for British, American, World, and Classic Literature. I have had the opportunity to teach at a local homeschool cooperative for the past 6 years. It is one of my greatest accomplishments to hear a student talk about a classic piece of literature as their favorite novel ever. With this goal in mind, I create a classroom environment that is welcoming and fun without losing the educational value of great books. I choose assignments that are relevant and helpful in understanding the material while also being engaging. Since October 2017, I have been teaching English online to Chinese students while working for VIPKid. This experience with ESL students has been a wonderful opportunity and taught me much about grammar, pronunciation, and teaching in a virtual setting.

Hobbies

I love teaching! It has always been my passion. I am happiest when teaching literature to students and helping them appreciate a great story. I also love all things Disney World! If you want to distract me, ask about my favorite attraction. I also love to crochet and you can often find me binge watching a Netflix show with yarn and a hook in my hand. We added a sweet Shih tzu to our family in March 2020 and she is my favorite thing most days. Her name is Gertie and you can find her near me anytime I'm at the computer teaching a lesson.
