The key challenges for students from my experience has been foremost, time management, but most important being able to distinguish which facts, data, and circumstances are important to identify in questions, case scenarios, and vignettes. Students often get trapped in the weeds and have difficulty identifying the key components in questions that are presented in regards to "What is the question asking the student to identify and do?" and "The why behind the option(s) is/are the best selection(s) to choose".
I possess over thirty-plus years in leadership positions in the healthcare arena and education focusing on student/learner success in academia and healthcare settings. I am able to see the "The Big Picture" and assess, develop, plan interventions and implementation of curriculum/instruction design to aid and facilitate the direct learning of participants and improvement in their overall learning outcomes. My doctorate research focused on the policies and procedures institutions had employed for NCLEX success in student learning, titled "Quality Remediation Leads to Successful Learning", https://hdl.handle.net/10657/4084 . The successful findings and approaches can be applied to all disciplines of education.
