Norene: Westminster tutor
Certified Tutor
I taught for 30 years in various parts of Brooklyn, NY. My specialty has always been elementary education with an emphasis on early childhood. I received both my Bachelors and Masters degrees from Queens College. I then continued to study for my Supervisors license from the Massachusetts College for Liberal Arts.
Education is extremely important to me. Therefore I took advantage of every opportunity to continue my studies learning and implementing the newest programs of education. I strongly believe that every student does not learn the same way. Teaching must be differentiated for each student. Each child is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses. My belief is that we should teach to their strengths to support their weaknesses.
In order to maintain a child's interest we must make learning fun and offer practical ways in which the lessons can be used in life.
After retiring I went back to the last school in which I taught, and worked with students that needed extra support in literacy (which includes reading and writing), as well as Math. These lessons were taught both individually and in small group setting. I know that my love of working with the students and learning encouraged the children to work hard and succeed.
For the past year I have been working with Varsity Tutors teaching both classes and individuals. I enjoy teaching once again and being able to interact with the students.

i am very interested in working with children and opening up their world. I strongly believe in incorporating arts in education and using a child's interest as a stepping stone for their lessons. My greatest love is children's books. Though I don't have many hobbies, I enjoy reading and working on diamond art projects. I also love to listen to children's conversations and learning about things that are the new and most important in a child's life.
