Certified Tutor
I have recently retired from full-time work in education after almost 30 years. During those years I have taught first grade, fourth grade, seventh grade and high school and have served as the middle school principal, curriculum specialist and assistant school administrator. Considering teaching a great profession, I have always valued the role that education can make in the life of an individual.
I returned to school twice to receive first a M.Ed. then for a PB Certificate in TESOL in order to sharpen my own skills as a teacher. Learning can be stimulating and I work to help students feel that energy and joy. My reward is that 'light in the eye', 'I got it!' look when genuine understanding takes place. To help students get there, I try to design lessons that build from what is known to what is new, going one step at a time, so that all students can experience success. I am strongest in the language arts subjects; reading, reading comprehension, literature, writing, writing structures, and grammar, but also love history, the elementary level sciences and math.
I love being outdoors and so my hobbies include hiking, biking, and camping. When indoors I enjoy reading and experimenting with new recipes.
