I am at heart, a storyteller. Writing is my passion and something that I've been pursuing since I was twelve years old and wrote my first novel by the age of thirteen. I attended the Tri County Early College, where I earned an AA degree before I graduated high school. I was taught using a new method of teaching Project Based Learning that gave me the skills to become a public speaker, a teacher, manage my own time, and drive my own educational experience. During my time in high school I started several school clubs, wrote for our community's local newspaper, and was a keynote speaker at a STEM conference in Raleigh, NC.
From TCEC, I went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I earned a degree in Theater, with concentrations in Russian Studies and Global Cinema. What's more important, is that I kept up my interests as a storyteller. I studied journalism for two years, wrote research papers on philosophers, learned how geography and the environment helped determine and develop ancient societies, and I saw how powerful the captured image can be in film and other mediums. During this time, I wrote for the student newspaper; The Daily Tarheel, I was the head-writer for an Augmented Reality videogame in association with UNC Hospitals, a play I wrote was published and several others of mine were produced, and I helped staff and run over twelve main-stage plays at Playmakers Repertory Company.
I believe in personalized education that focuses on teaching students how to think, rather than memorize facts to forget them after the test. I believe that the best way to engage students is by harnessing their own interests, and teaching them how to drive their own education by encouraging experimentation, exploration, and doing. I work to empower learners and help them find their own talents and voice, be it through writing, film, history, or art.
Allow me to help you tell your own story.
