Elyse: Lawrence tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the College of William and Mary. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies with a concentration in history and minors in Economics and Teaching ESOL. After graduating in 2019, I joined Teach For America and moved to Miami to teach in a Title I school. This year, my students' scores surpassed both school-wide and county-wide averages in every Language Arts metric (iReady, Performance Matters, FSA Writing) and at interim testing in December, more than 80% of my students had already achieved their annual growth targets in both vocabulary and reading comprehension.
While my certification and the bulk of my experience is in teaching English, I also enjoy working with students in preparation for standardized testing. I believe that students succeed when learning is a game rather than a chore. I strive to make subjects not just accessible but exciting, tailoring materials and activities to student interests. When I'm not working with students, I enjoy reading, tennis, long road trips, and anything outdoors!
