I never enjoyed math, and my 6th grade Pre-Algebra teacher did nothing to sway my opinion. Every Thursday though, when I met with my math tutor, Kyle, he gave me a couple minutes before each session to vent about the week's math lesson. He simply listened to me, cracked a couple jokes, and within the next few minutes, we found ourselves knee deep in my Pre-Algebra homework. I realized then how important the educator is for a student. I felt comfortable explaining my problem-solving strategies to Kyle and felt even more comfortable hearing his advice on how to tweak those strategies. He was relatable, understanding, affable, and I want to be that educator for YOU.
I spent my freshman and sophomore year at Vanderbilt University, but with COVID-19, I want to be closer to family, and am transferring back home to Saint Louis University to complete my degree in Neuroscience. I spent a semester tutoring a student with ADHD with "Vanderbilt Teach the Future," an organization that provided educators for young students with learning disabilities. I'm most interested in tutoring for the ACT, as well as Chemistry and Algebra (thank you Kyle), but can also be your academic coach and provide some advice on study habits or how to tweak your own. Additionally, I would love to help craft a personal statement for college admissions! My most important job as an educator will be understanding your learning style as to work to your strengths and to bolster weaknesses.
