Certified Tutor
As a tutor, I love helping people understand concepts, and I've been told that I explain subjects very well. I try to approach the subjects from multiple angles to ensure complete understanding. Though I love developing relationships with my students, my ultimate goal is to instill the student with enough confidence for them to completely master the subject independently.
I have tutored students as young as 5 years old, and as old as 45 years old, in math, test prep (ACT and GED), and reading/grammar. I worked in a first-grade classroom for 2 years as a mentor and tutor with an Americorps program. Since then, I've tutored middle school, high school, and college students as a "side hustle".
My favorite subject to tutor is math. I was fortunate to go to a school with some really excellent math teachers who helped me grasp concepts right away; I love sharing that knowledge with students. I excel in tutoring Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra, and Advanced Math, though I also enjoy tutoring in Statistics and Personal Finance. I'm naturally gifted in editing and proofreading documents (I think it's due to my Hermione Granger tendencies of being a know-it-all), and I can offer help in formatting essays or papers to sound just right.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy cooking and hanging out with my family. I have a toddler and my husband and I love going on afternoon walks to go to the nearby playground with him. If I have free time, you can usually find me listening to podcasts while I'm making something crafty.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Environmental Science from Rhodes College and a Master's degree in Public Health from Tulane University. I also hold several certifications for my career in the safety profession, and am hoping to start taking classes on industrial hygiene soon. I look forward to helping you on your learning journey!
