I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a recent graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York with a B.A. degree with honors in English. I am passionate about the transformative power of reading and writing in any person's life, and tutor literature and writing at the middle school, high school, and college level to students with diverse academic backgrounds and interests. My goal as a tutor is to help clients build concrete skills in these subject areas in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. I have volunteered in classroom settings and tutored students in grades 2-12, including in a public elementary school and a private school for college-bound students in elementary through high school with social and learning disabilities. In college, I spent many hours peer-reviewing my classmates' work as well as learning from their feedback, culminating in a senior thesis-level writing workshop with four other advanced nonfiction writing students. I bring the philosophy of learning as a collaborative exercise to my process of working with clients. My favorite field of study is disability studies, and my senior thesis in college was a creative nonfiction piece written for an advanced course in disability studies about inclusion, memory, and the nature of the passage of time. In my free time, I enjoy going for walks outside in nature, writing plays with my best friend, and altering/sewing clothes and costumes for friends and family.
