My passion for teaching and helping others really blossomed during my time at CUNY Bronx Community College as a student tutor in Beginner Spanish and then later, in New York University where I relied on several scholarships each semester.

I learned quickly how to think critically and write compelling essays for these scholarships. What I enjoyed most was helping my fellow classmates and new students with their writing. It was extremely rewarding to see confidence develop in them and the more I helped, the more I learned about myself as a writer and thinker.

I still use various literary devices such as foreshadowing, metaphors, and alliteration whenever I write. Similarly, I enjoy picking up on these techniques when I read. This has prepared me well for the publishing and communications industry where I work today as a Production Assistant. The skills I have acquired working for various publications, such as how to pitch an idea or how to shape a story, are practical ones that could be taught to students in upper grades.

Additionally, I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for an afterschool program and as a Child Caregiver for several years, so I am attuned to providing homework help for grades K5 as well as providing some emotional support during stressful academic situations. Extremely familiar with reading comprehension assignments and essay writing, I can patiently guide students through the process as they draw their own conclusions. My aim, especially with reading and writing, is to make learning fun. I believe in breaking the material down step by step, creating a sort of check-list that helps assignments feel less overwhelming. Students from such a young age are put under a lot of pressure from academic expectations and standardized tests. My priority is to relieve some of that pressure and help them realize their true potential!
