I am so excited to be working as a part-time tutor for Varsity Tutoring! My name is Judi and I am new to the Dallas area. I was born in Queens New York, raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I received a Bachelor of Music Degree and worked for the East Baton Rouge Parish School District as a Music Teacher. My family and I later moved to the state of Minnesota to further my education and increase the learning opportunities for our children. As a resident of Minnesota, I attended the University of Minnesota where I obtained a Master's of Education Degree with an Equivalency in Music Therapy in 2005. Upon completion of my Master's, I worked as a Choral Director and Music Therapist in the Minneapolis area. In 2011, I decided to return to school to advance my studies in Special Education at the University of St. Thomas Minneapolis Campus. I completed the program for license/certification as an Academic Behavior Strategist and Learning Disabilities specialist. I am also trained in several reading strategies including the Orton and Gillingham method. Teaching students to read and write is a passion of mine and I must admit, I have grown to be quite good at it! It is my desire that students learn these skills and reach their maximum potential.
We decided to give Texas a try to escape the cold winters in Minnesota brrrr! Two of our children and their families live here so I am elated to be near family.
