Fatima: Hinsdale tutor

Fatima is delighted to be joining the Varsity Tutors team. She is new to Baton Rouge, hailing from the Bronx, NY. Her parents are Senegalese immigrants who taught her to value deeply the transformative power of an education. Taking their lessons to heart, Fatima vigorously pursued her undergraduate studies at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. She majored in Sociology with minors in Global Studies and Rhetoric & Communication. Thereafter, she completed her postgraduate studies at the University of Exeter in Exeter, England, obtaining two Masters of Arts degrees in Islamic Studies and Applied Security Strategy. From 2016 to 2018, Fatima taught Writing in both the 5th and 6th grades at Uncommon Schools' Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Middle Academy, a US Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School, in Brooklyn, NY. She currently teaches 10th grade English at a local high school. Her experiences there have been joyous and challenging but importantly, they confirmed for her that teaching is a profoundly rewarding profession. In her free time, Fatima enjoys hanging out with her six siblings and reading.
