I love teaching, and coaching, and mentoring young people. Before we moved to Florida three years ago, I taught business Accounting and Finance at Pillar College in Newark, NJ for three years and loved it. Students learned and had fun in acquiring new information and skills about the intricacies of running a business. I first took an Accounting course in my senior year while majoring in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois though my advisor wanted me to take another EE elective. But I was interested in business and continued on at Illinois to earn my MBA with a dual major in Finance and Accounting. At IBM I started in marketing and software development but migrated to my first love, Finance and Accounting on the Corporate Controller's staff monitoring business operations of the Americas/Far East division. After 25 years at IBM, I worked for a number of major non-profits in New York City in charge of Information Technology as Chief Information Officer. I concluded my career as Chief Operating Officer at Ithaka Harbors an incubator of non-profits from the Mellon Foundation. Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology reported to me. When I officially retired, I missed the personal interaction with others, especially mentoring young people coming up in the business world. Teaching business at Pillar College allowed me to continue those activities. Now, in Oldsmar Florida, the opportunity to tutor young students in Finance and Accounting will allow me to continuing mentoring young people on their way to success in the business world.
