Certified Tutor

I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities). After teaching in high school in central Minnesota for a few years, I obtained my Master of Mathematics Education, also from the University of Minnesota.
I am a math teacher who teaches everything from pre-algebra to advanced college math through Calculus 1 and Introduction to Statistics, so I am tutoring students all the time. I make myself available to students before and after school and also during our study hall time during the school day. In addition, I have tutored students from other schools and adults who are attending college.
Please ask me for help with middle or high school math, college algebra and college trigonometry, introductory statistics or calculus. My favorite subject to teach is college algebra or trigonometry because students in these courses realize they are necessary for their future and put for the most effort towards being successful.
My teaching philosophy is that all people can learn math if they really want to. If you strive to understand, you can get there, sometimes you may need a little help, but you can get there. That is my job, to be the little big of help you need.
My tutoring style would be to figure out where a person's knowledge sits, understand how I can best help them by determining what they are not understanding, and relate the new material to their past knowledge. This way, connections can be made and knowledge can be gained. This all sounds very official, but, when it is happening, it will be personalized to each individual.
Outside of teaching students I like to work in my wood shop. My dad taught myself and my siblings how to build things and I am proud to be able to make wood furniture, cabinets, and other things for my kids. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes from making things from boards out of wood!
