Math is for everyone. It is the universal language, and everyone can learn to understand it. It is connected to everything -- science, art, music, and nature, to name a few. I am committed to the teaching and learning of mathematics, and I expect to earn my Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Texas State University in December 2018. My Bachelor of Science in Computer Science / Math was earned at Louisiana State University, and my Master in the Art of Teaching degree was earned at Memphis State University.
I have been tutoring students, beginning with my peers, since high school. I continued tutoring through college, taught professionally in the Information Technology field, then returned to teaching full time in 2002. I prefer to tutor adults, but I will consider high school students. I am an expert in Algebra (all levels), Pre-Calculus and Calculus. I have also worked as an assessment specialist writing standardized test items. Other areas include Business Algebra, Business Calculus, Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers, Statistics, and Discrete Math.
Not everyone learns mathematics in the same way, and not all learners are the same. Failure is almost always necessary to learn something new. Educated guesses, trial and error, and repeated effort are necessary to varying degrees. I have learned many things about mathematics over the years, many from my own students.
I don't mind if you don't like math or love math. But, I can help you find your strengths and weaknesses (we all have them.) And, hopefully, I can help you appreciate a bit of the beauty and wonder that I see in it. I DO love math. But, think about it this way -- do you want to learn from someone who doesn't? When I have free time, I like to knit and read mystery novels. I also play Pokmon Go and Clash of Clans.
