Certified Tutor
I have taught reading and language arts to students in grades K-12 for seven years. Most of my teaching experience is with students who struggle due to learning disabilities, but Ive also worked with pre-AP and AP students to improve their reading comprehension and writing compositions. My favorite genre is classic American literature, but I enjoy helping students understand and analyze whatever they may be studying, from Homer to Shakespeare and Poe to Salinger. I hold a bachelor's degree in advertising and public relations from Texas Christian University. This led me to a seven-year career in marketing, working as a copywriter and account executive. After staying home with my kids for a few years, I went back to school. I qualified for my Texas teaching certificate after completing coursework at Lone Star College. I am certified to teach reading and language arts in grades 4-8 and English in grades 9-12. I also hold certifications in special education and ESL. Before I start working with a new tutoring client, I will ask lots of questions to help me get to know him or her. It's important to find out a students strengths and weaknesses, interests and dislikes, and goals for time spent in tutorials. This information helps me create an individualized plan for each student. No matter what a student may be struggling with in reading or writing, I am confident I can help.
