Certified Tutor

I am a rising second-year at the University of Virginia, studying Global Public Health and Social Entrepreneurship. I have sufficient experience in tutoring math and have been tutoring since I was in 8th grade. Topics include 7th and 8th grade SOL material, Alg 1 and 2, Pre-Calc, Trigonometry, and IB Math HL (the equivalent of AP BC Calc). Additionally, I am an ESL tutor for the Charlottesville Alliance for Refugees and have sufficient experience helping with English and writing skills.

The most important to me when tutoring is to make sure that the student feels comfortable and open to sharing what they are struggling with content wise. I see my role as being the sounding board to their preexisting knowledge and understanding, and then subsequently helping them recontextualize the material that they don't understand in a manner that makes sense to them. Most of my tutoring experience has been with students in middle and high school, so I am comfortable working with students of varied levels. I want every tutoring relationship to be one of mentorship, where students feel comfortable asking questions and making connections of their own.
