Certified Tutor

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page and considering me as your/your child's tutor. Varsity Tutors has me listed as Jordan but please call me Spencer.

I want to open this letter to future clients by stating that I welcome all students who want to learn regardless of any behavioral or learning disability they may have. I have an autistic brother and have been around individuals with severe mental impairments for all my life. I have also been a volunteer teacher/tutor to elementary aged children who had various learning disabilities. These experiences have been very eye opening for me. I can and will try to accommodate my tutoring to whatever disabilities you/your child may have.

In regards to what I tutor I primarily do tutoring in basic study skills for middle school aged children entering high school or young adults leaving high school and entering college. I also offer essay/writing help which includes but does limit itself to essay/paper organization, answering essay prompts, basic grammar and spelling help, various citation help including MLA and APA, and how to properly cite and research a paper.

I have two bachelor's one in psychology and one in sociology. My strengths in those include basic sociology and psychology, abnormal psychology, sociology of gender, sociology of race, sociological theory. I also have interest and have considerable knowledge in medieval history, British History, 19th Century literature including Wilde, Austen, and Doyle. I also can understand and help to tutor any Shakespeare plays but especially the main ones in high school; Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth.

I believe that tutoring is an individual supplement for in classroom instruction. This means that the tutor should mold their tutoring to how their student learns and not the student having to adjust to the tutor. The first session will involve tutoring but will also be how I assess how you/your child learns, what particular thing they are struggling with, and the very best way when can help them learn the material. Sometimes it just takes a bit of help and you can sometimes find your passion in an area you never thought possible. Sometimes you just need a good guide.
