Hi, I am a Graduate of the University of Toronto (Education); and the University of Waterloo (Joint Major: Hons Political Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, with a Minor in History). I have ten years experience as a high school teacher (History, World Religions, Philosophy, English Literature, Introduction to Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology), and 20 years experience as a youth counselor, and youth crisis counselor.

I recently moved to Chicago from Toronto - a city that is considered one of the most multicultural cities in the world - so I have plenty of experience working with students from a wide array of cultures and backgrounds.

As far as I am concerned learning should be about the exploration of ideas, and it should be enjoyable. It may not always seem enjoyable, but with the proper tools and support learning can be much easier than you think! You may not realize that you are learning almost all of the time. New people, new situations, and new concepts are always coming into your daily awareness.

Of course some things may be more exciting for you to discover and explore than other subjects. That's natural. But if you get yourself into the right mindset, you can be as successful in subjects that aren't as exciting for you as the ones that are.

I see my role as supporting you, helping you understand what is expected in your subject and grade level, and helping you unravel the difficulties you may be experiencing.
