I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

As a daughter of a teacher and having children of my own, my career in education began with the homeschooling of my five children; with two up to high school graduation. Now that they have left home to begin their own careers, I have been able to begin the transition into a full- time teaching career of my own. Through all the struggles of raising a family, and with the help and support of my husband, I have been able to obtain my degree. I graduated Summa Cum Laude. Being flexible and without neglecting my responsibilities I was also able to take advantage of the opportunities that have opened up to me as described below that helped shape and prepare me for this lifelong goal. I possess more than 20 years of progressive experience in teaching and teaching support from preschool through twelfth grade. My professional history includes positions such as a support teacher at Morning glory Montessori school, teaching art at Bracken and Dayspring Christian schools, as well as simultaneously planning, preparing, and teaching my children for various grade levels from preschool through twelfth grades. Most recently, my experience as a substitute teacher, and previously as an inclusion support teacher in Comal ISD have been great learning and teaching experiences for me. I grew up in the 1970s when Public schools focused on whole-language rather than phonics and I struggled all through school, and that is why I became a teacher, to be able to help struggling students. My approach to learning is a visual and hands-on approach. I think learning should be fun and if it is then a world of opportunities and insights can open up to the student.
