Ian: Marquette County tutor
Certified Tutor
Hello students and parents!
My name is Ian and I am eager to help your student unlock his/her own success. I am a product of Montessori elementary education, public selective enrollment high school education and top tier public university education. I believe that learning is most successful when the student is engaged through examples relevant to his/her life, and entertainment by the subject.
Although English and Spanish are my strong suits, I am particularly helpful when it comes to elementary math and algebra tutoring because math is something that never came easy to me. I learned math in both traditional and non traditional ways (Montessori and Interactive Mathematics Program) and it always took various explanations for me to be able to understand a concept. I know how it feels to dislike a subject, but also the gratification gained from developing comfort and facility.
I have learned writing and Spanish at relatively high levels but I know that this does not always translate to ability to teach. When it comes to teaching, I believe that students all learn in different ways and in order to teach a student, one has to develop an understanding for his/her person first; we are not robots that can understand something simply by looking at it once.
Although I am not ADHD/ADD teaching certified, I have a younger sibling in high school with ADHD and an older sibling with ADD, both of whom I've helped with the English and Spanish subjects.
I have experience working with students and kids from all walks of life (cognitive challenges, children of refugees, children at under-resourced schools, and children at private schools) and I encourage you to peruse my resume and LinkedIn for any clarification.
I look forward to helping students succeed and I will work around your schedules wherever possible.
Best,
Ian
