Abraham Lincoln once wrote a letter to his son’s first teacher. The letter indicates everything a teacher should embody as an educator. It is far more than just giving a child a science or math lesson, it is about giving a child individuality and helping them become his or her own person. Helping them develop skills and basic knowledge to become the person they one day set out to be. Encouraging them to never give up and to live a humble life filled with positivity and to have faith in something far greater than themselves.
As a child, I had also received tutoring because I needed the extra help. Tutoring gave me the help I needed when I did not understand a subject. It gave me confidence and self-assurance that I was able to learn anything if I practiced diligently and understood accurately. I can still recall the moments I had in school where I was the first one to raise my hands because I was ahead of the lesson plans that were being taught. That feeling was indescribable and gave me a sense of hope in getting a good grade for the class.
A teacher duties surpasses anything but mediocrity and hopelessness. It is one of the most important and rewarding professions out there. With patient and persistent, a child can learn just about anything they put their mind to. Science is a very challenging yet exciting subject. With countless experiments and unlimited information, it is anything but a dull subject once it is taught right. With my biology degree obtained from Saint Peters University, I believe I can make any subject exciting for children. At Saint Peters University, my very own professors made science exciting through experiments in and outside the class room. They gave me their undivided attention and always encouraged me to come to office hours if I ever had any questions or needed anything to be explained again. I want to do the same thing my professors did for me by never giving up on a child and always helping them when they feel lost about a subject. With my experience in biology and my love for teaching, I believe I will be a wonderful tutor.
