Hi my name is Lizzie. I have been working with kids in one way or another since I was about 12 years old. With babysitting at a young age, working at day cares, and now teaching people of all ages how to ride horses you could say that I have a passion not only for kids but for being an educator. I am currently going to school to be an elementary school teacher and would love to have the opportunity to work with a diverse community of students.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that, for a successful learning experience, there needs to be equal collaborative effort put forth between both student and instructor in an interactive, conversational style.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would question the student on how they feel about their current curriculum, where they feel they stand in the understanding of that curriculum, and where their goals are.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
To help a student become more independent, I would implement a balance between providing them with the appropriate materials, in addition to having them use given materials alongside newly found information to answer their questions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
In order to help a student to stay motivated, I would do two things: give them a sense of control, and encourage self-reflection.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill, I would first start off with what they do know about that skill or concept. From there, I would break it down to a simpler form, and then work my way up to the desired skill.
