What is your teaching philosophy?

Repetition. Instruct via examples, and then ask leading questions to guide a student through the problem.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Give them a problem. Using guided questions, not pencil and paper, verbally prompt the student for the next step in solving the problem.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

After guiding a student successfully through a problem without anything written by me, I inform the student that everything on the paper came from them.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Begin an example problem, and then ask them if they understand the thought process and execution at each step. Clarify as needed.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Gauge the individual's personality and work style while going through problems together. Cater to the student's learning style.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

A pencil, paper, a calculator as needed, and handouts where appropriate.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Relate it to a tangible example of an interest of theirs. Make analogies and mindful jokes/stories to help them remember when working independently.
