What is your teaching philosophy?
A hands-on approach where teaching comes from modeling first. Teaching should be fun. My philosophy is to engage my students and utilize real world examples.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would utilize the first session to learn about the student and for the student to learn about the teacher. We may play a game to get to know about each other's interests. I would also need to learn about the student's challenges and goals for tutoring.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Encourage the student to study independently and seek out opportunities to learn topics outside of sessions. This may include reading new books, visiting new exhibits, and attempting to utilize new study skills to pass tests in school. I would give out homework that could enhance their interest in learning.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By keeping the discussion fun and developmentally appropriate. I would encourage the child's growth and praise them for the strides they make.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would use repetition and positive reinforcement. I would be patient in helping them comprehend the difficult concepts.
